WHAT IS THIS SITE ALL ABOUT?
FatCat (One word. Capital F. Capital C.) Radio is an internet radio station based in Rockford, Illinois USA.
Founded by 'One Angry Swede' in December 2001, it is now co-managed by Swede and his wife Jennifer.
We feature 100% independent music presented in two formats: On Air (live) & On Demand. Our purpose is to
provide exposure for unsigned & small label artists while giving listeners around the world the best of today's independent rock & blues. To date, listeners from more than 80 countries have 'Clicked on the Cat'.
WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY?
We primarily play hard rock and most varieties of blues. To a lesser degree we also feature some punk and metal.
FatCat Radio is not a ballads type station nor a heavy metal station. Our programming falls somewhere in between.
The live shows tend to be mostly genre specific while the Auto-Pilot and On Demand mix things up a bit more.
All music is by unsigned or small label independent artists only. (Royalty free / by permission)
WILL YOU PLAY MY MUSIC?
This is the most asked question we get. The truthful answer is... probably not. Yes, we add artists who properly submit
their music for consideration (see below) but the fact is the number we approve is very small. We are only interested in
rock and blues and we have very specific tastes when it comes to our programming. We encourage you to take a few
minutes to listen to FatCat Radio and get a feel for the type of music we air before asking to have your material evaluated.
To have your music considered for airplay on FatCat Radio please complete the MUSIC SUBMISSION FORM.
With the time it takes to review submissions, communicate with artists, prepare tracks for broadcast, etc - it is simply not
possible to accomodate all those seeking airplay. That being said, we are constantly on the lookout for new music.
In addition to artist submissions, some of the resources we use include: ReverbNation, Music Alley, and Soundclick.
CAN I JUST EMAIL YOU SOME MP3'S? MAIL YOU A CD?
Do NOT send mp3s / other files. Without exception all unsolicited music we receive is deleted without review.
Complete the Music Submission Form to have us evaluate your material for airplay. A mailing address for cds,
press kits or other promotional material is provided by request only to those artists currently on our roster.
HOW DO I LISTEN?
Click the *ON AIR* link from anywhere on the website. A player embedded above the song information display
will begin playing. The On Air page automatically refreshes to bring you the current song info along with artist website links.
Additional options
Click the media link for more player options.
Third party or 'sister sites' that stream our live content can also be found in the Litterbox section.
FatCat On Demand
Select your station and push the play button or click on the song title.
Troubleshooting
You will need a high speed internet connection as FatCat Radio broadcasts at a cd quality rate of 128k/bps.
When using one of the other media options you may be required to update your flash settings or add a plug-in if you
are using an older version of your web browser. We do not recommend using the pause button on the FatCat Player.
You'll get out of sync with the song information and fall behind the actual streaming content. If you are unable to get the
music to play at all, check the On Air page to verify we are not temporarily offline. If still having trouble please contact us
via email and we'll try our best to assist you.
Notes
The FatCat player uses flash media provided by Wavestreaming and is compatible with all browsers and platforms,
(provided you have not disabled Javascript) including Internet Explorer, Firefox & Safari, Windows and Apple Mac.
IS THE STATION 'SFW' (SAFE FOR WORK)?
Generally speaking we are SFW. Parental advisory is recommended due to lyrical content or on air profanity.
We keep the focus on the music and run things as professionally as possible but you may hear the occasional
'naughty' word. FatCat Radio is not however 'shock jock' radio. Think PG-13 instead of R or NC17.
WHAT IS THE AUTO-PILOT?
Automated streaming music from a database of songs from the live shows plus many Auto-Pilot exclusive artists.
HOW CAN I BECOME A DJ?
We have no plans at this time to add more staff members.
CENTRAL TIME? STATION TIME? WHAT TIME IS THAT WHERE I AM?
The digital clock located on the schedule page displays the official FatCat Radio time. (US Central Timezone) To help determine the show times in your area please use our timezone converter.
DO YOU HAVE PODCASTS AVAILABLE?
Instead of podcasts we have programming on Thursdays called Play It Again Sam. Rebroadcasts of each of
the live shows air throughout the day starting at 12:00AM CST. When listening, click the links on the On Air page
for individual show recaps (including artist links). Play It Again Sam always begins with The BIG Show.
WHERE'S THE CHATROOM?
FatCat Radio is here to bring the listener quality independent music. We are not here to be a social networking site.
There is no chatroom. There is no longer a message board for that matter. We do, of course, want to hear from
listeners & artists. Feedback / questions / suggestions / requests are ALWAYS encouraged. Contact us via email
or post your comments at our blog, The Cat's Meow. We sometimes conduct 'live blogs' during the shows to
allow you to interact with the on air host, the artists, and other listeners. You can submit requests by clicking the
'Requests' button found on the On Air page during the Indigo Lounge and the BIG Show.
HOW CAN I HELP THE STATION?
The single most important thing a listener or artist can do to help is simply get the word out. If you like what you hear
on FatCat Radio and if you support what we're trying to accomplish please tell other music fans to "Click on the Cat".
Mention the site on Facebook, Twitter, etc, or any message board you may frequent. If you would like to place a banner
on your website click here for various designs / sizes to choose from. We are always interested in receiving
promos and station ids from bands as well as listeners. See the blog for details. T-shirts, pins and other swag
with the FatCat logo are available at Fat-Mart. If you'd like to make a donation to help cover our monthly expenses
see the Support link on the main page. But basically when it comes to helping FatCat Radio, whatever you can do
to get the word out about the station and our artists benefits everyone involved and is greatly appreciated.
WHAT MAKES 'ONE ANGRY SWEDE' SO ANGRY?
When people get the name of the station wrong. It's FatCat. All one word. Capital F. Capital C. FatCat.
IS YOUR CAT REALLY THAT FAT?
We don't call her 'Big Fat G' for nothing ! Yes. She is fat.
